How a stone crusher makes GSB, 10 mm, 20 mm and 40 mm
A plain account of how one crusher circuit splits rock into GSB, 10 mm, 20 mm, 40 mm, WMM and crusher dust, and who each size is for.
One feed, several products
A stone crusher does not make one stone. It makes a family of sizes from one feed. The primary jaw breaks rock the face has already reduced to a size the mouth can take. Belts carry that break to the screens. The screens decide the names on the piles.
What leaves a typical yard, when the circuit is set for road and building stone, is GSB, 40 mm, 20 mm, 10 mm and crusher dust. Wet mix macadam, WMM, is a graded damp product for the road crust, not a separate magic rock.
What each name is for
GSB, granular sub-base, is a graded mix under a road. It is blended to the section the engineer specifies. It is not “whatever is left”.
40 mm is the coarse metal: soling, drainage, base. It should not carry a tail of dust if the screen is doing its work.
20 mm is the everyday size for RCC, ready-mix and road metal. Most building orders start here.
10 mm is the fine metal for concrete, thinner sections and mixes that cannot hide a larger chip. Buyers ask for it by the truck, and they can see a wrong size with their eyes.
Crusher dust is the fine the circuit cannot avoid. It is a fill, and a sand substitute only where the specification allows it. Calling dust “sand” when the spec does not allow it is how disputes start.
The screen is the product
Change the cloth and you change the yard. A plant set for 40 and 20 will not quietly become a 10 mm plant because a buyer arrived. Oversize has to return to the crusher, not get pushed into the nearest pile because the loader is in a hurry.
Quarrytec’s product list is this family: GSB, 10 mm, 20 mm, 40 mm, WMM and crusher dust. The cut follows the order. A tonne is real only after a plant and a shift are named.
